Overview: {Private Tours}

Experience visit seven of the most famous temples, including the Temple of unique architecture.The Chiang Mai city is defined by a 720 year old moat, sits in the shadow of a monastery built in the 14th century and is dotted with temples raised by kings in centuries long past. In ancient times kings built temples to demonstrate not only their devotion, but also their wealth and power. Temples served not only as centres of faith, but also as schools. Today, temples are still a central part of Thai life and the holy structures of Chiang Mai are living, breathing places that serve as invaluable bridges to the past, keeping the people linked to the timeless traditions of their ancestors. Most of Chiang Mai’s Buddhist temples.

Highlight:

- Visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is the most important temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Built in the early 19th Buddhist century, the beauty of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is marked by seven-headed serpent statues that line the stairs to the temple where a Chiang Saen style golden pagoda and all its exquisite Lanna architecture is situated. The view of Chiang Mai from here is just phenomenal as well.

- Visiting Wat Chedi Luang or The Grand Pagoda Temple where you can see the biggest pagoda in Chiang Mai which broke down by the earthquake in 1454, but still can see the giantic pagoda stands gracefully in the middle of the temple ground.

- Visiting  Wat Chiang Man, the first temple as the royal resident of King Mengrai of Mengrai dynasty. See 2 precious Buddha images "Phra Satangkamanee " and "Phra Buddha Sila" which are important for Chiang Mai people.

- Visiting Wat Phra Singh is one of the highlights of Chiang Mai.  The grounds and buildings are beautiful and so spiritual, the colors and the decorations are perfectly great. One of the main buildings houses (Viharn Lai Kam) very nice murals.

- Visiting Wat Sri Suphan is also known as the Silver Temple because of its impressive hand crafted silver decoration. The temple is completely covered in silver, from the walls to the roof and display some detailed silver carvings of Buddhism legends. Even the statues of Buddha are covered in silver. Wat Sri Suphan was originally built around 1500 to serve as the main temple for a silversmith village. While over the years parts of the temple were repaired with silver from the local village the process of completely covering the temple in silver only began in 2008. The inside of the temple is even more interesting with silver decoration, mirrors and bright colours mixed together. However due to old Buddhist rules women are not allowed to enter the inside of the temple and must remain outside.

- Visiting Wat Suan Dok, built in late 14th century, houses several structures of historical significance. Among them include the principal pagoda that enshrines the Buddha’s relics, a garden of whitewashed mausoleums housing the ashes of late Chiang Mai rulers and a large open-air wiharn (assembly hall).

- Visiting Wat Umong is Chiang Mai’s only forest temple. The temple complex is located at the foot of Doi Pui Mountain and the buildings are located throughout the forested area. Wat Umong dates back to the 13th Century and consists of a range of old ruins, meditation tunnels and a large unpainted stupa. The temple complex also has a monastery so there are always monks walking around, often circling the stupa in prayer. The tunnels are rarely used for meditation anymore due to the amount of visitors that come each day. When entering you should take your shoes off and remain silent as this is a place of worship. There are a few enclaves with Buddha statues and if you look on the ceiling of the tunnels you may be able to see some old drawings of elephants and temples, thought to date back to the 13th or 14th Century.
